While we read the news, horrified by the way White people have been weaponizing the police, I’m starting to think, White women across the nation are inspired by these stories. Because every week, we learn of a new incident where a Black woman felt “inconvenienced” by the mere presence of a Black person and decided to call the police in order to get rid of them.
The latest incident to hit the news comes from Oakland, California’s Lake Merritt. A woman called the police to report a Black family for barbecuing with charcoal in an area designated for gas grilling. As you might imagine, the rule is not heavily observed.
This woman called the police on the family and then wept when they arrived, speaking about how she had been harassed by them. Thankfully, a member of the family recorded the woman calling the police before they arrived. So there was no discrepancy.
The police took a statement from the White woman and the family she was attempting to have arrested. They were held up for an hour before the police eventually left.
